Heritage Quilters of South Suburbia
South Holland, IL 60473
Our guild is fortunate to present programs that feature world renowned artists and teachers. We have in the past, and expect to have in the future, many creative and talented quilting artists passionate about sharing their knowledge.
Our programs not only inform but inspire. There is always something new to learn and a new area of creativity to explore. We try to present variety in our programs and encourage members and guests to move outside their own comfort zone to explore more of what quilting as a unique art form has to offer. We feel our programs do just that and we are always working at bringing our members and guests informative, interesting and inspiring programs.
See the links page for websites for some of our past program speakers.

Bill Kerr- Transforming Traditions : Modernism and Quilts
First a little bit about..........FunQuilts
Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr are full-time professional quiltmakers and founders of FunQuilts, a contemporary quilt design studio in Oak Park, Illinois. They bring a modern twist to the great American quilting tradition with their decades of quiltmaking experience and graduate design degrees. They create innovative, museum-quality quilts which bring a warm touch to homes, offices, health-care facilities, and commercial settings. Their work has been featured in over forty publications including O: The Oprah Magazine, Metropolitan Home, TIME, The New York Times, American Patchwork & Quilting, Quilts and More, Interior Design, Home and The Chicago Tribune. Weeks and Bill are authors of Quilts Made Modern, The Modern Quilt Workshop, The Quiltmaker's Color Workshop (originally released as Color Harmony for Quilts and translated into French and German) and have designed more than 100 fabrics for FreeSpirit and RJR Fabrics. Weeks also writes the widely-read craft and creativity blog, Craft Nectar. www.craftnectar.com Rather than teach others to copy their quilts, they view themselves as coaches, helping quiltmakers become confident designers enabling them to express themselves through their own quilts Early American quilts were born of necessity but have been transformed into a vibrant contemporary art form. Bill will trace this transformation as it parallels changes in art, architecture, design and society. He will bring in a collection of quilts to show how the designs are expressive of the era in which we live and discuss their quilts.

Linda Halpin - 1 x 1: A Trunk Show of Quilts Using 1 inch x 1 inch Squares
****Change in topic from directory listing*****
With the publication of Linda's first Scrap Bonanza book, she became fascinated with what one could do with the tiny scraps that were cut away and thrown out in the construction process of quiltmaking. Making inventive use of these cutaways has become a trademark of her scrap quilts. By doing an extra line of stitching on these units before the excess is cut off, the cutaways become pre-sewn units that can be used to make what she calls Bonus Quilts. Truly nothing goes to waste as these diminutive 1 inch x 1 inch pieced squares transform into dozens of patchwork possibilities. Enjoy viewing dozens of quilts that will show just how you can transform tiny bits of cloth that would have otherwise been discarded. It will change the way you think about how you construct quilts.
